Founded in 2009, Switzerland-based Climeworks defines the direct air capture (DAC) category. It builds and operates DAC modular plants, which gather atmospheric carbon dioxide with filters, using low-grade heat as an energy source. Its technology offers an on-site supply of CO2 for various applications, including greenhouse fertilization and alkaline wastewater treatment. Climeworks’ forthcoming Project Cypress direct air capture facility in Louisiana, now in development alongside partner companies, is eligible to receive up to $600 million in U.S. Department of Energy funding.
