at Ritual Vitamins

  • Our thoughts: Our testers like the delayed release capsules
  • Who it’s for: Folks who want to know the sources of all supplement ingredients
  • What makes it different: Ritual doesn’t offer a quiz; rather, they prefer to provide science-backed info so you can make your own purchasing decisions

Pros

  • Vegan
  • Sustainability practices clearly documented on brand’s site
  • Certified B corp

Cons

  • More expensive than other similar supplements
  • No personalization, which some folks may prefer

Our Thoughts on Ritual Vitamins

Ritual is our pick for the best overall vitamin subscription because the brands offers 19 unique supplement subscriptions. Among these supplements, Ritual has multivitamins, gut health, pregnancy, multivitamins (for folks both 18+ and then both men and women 50+), and more. While Ritual doesn’t have a quiz on their site, they do have good reasoning: customized vitamins may not be the right fit for everyone, especially without bloodwork and evidence-based data.

Our testers have tried 14 of Ritual’s supplements. Many had good experiences with the brand, enjoying aspects such as product branding and aesthetics, traceability of the ingredients, and use of delayed release capsules to support absorption. When it comes to a subscription, our tester Ellen said, “I love the subscription model of this product. I took this when I was pregnant with my second child, so I was already busy and pregnant and didn’t want one more thing to think about. It saved me a lot of time and energy to just show up at my door.”

For busy professionals juggling work and family responsibilities, we think this model offers a lot of value.

Additionally, Ellen noted that in her experience, Ritual has great customer service. “Once, my monthly supply got lost in the mail and when I reached out, they immediately overnighted a new bottle to me, so I didn’t run out. I thought that was really impressive,” she said.

Potential drawbacks of Ritual include large capsules that may be more difficult to swallow (such as the prenatal) and not all the testers enjoyed the flavor essences (mint or citrus). Our tester Paige tried Ritual’s Prenatal Multivitamin and gave the swallowability a 3 out of 5 stars. The citrus flavor also got a 3 out of 5 rating. These are more personal preferences, though. If you choose to buy a Ritual supplement as a one-off purchase, it will cost about $10 more than a subscription, and there will also be a shipping fee.

Ritual has a monthly subscription available for each of the 19 supplements they sell. A new single product subscription will get you 20% off your first month’s supply, and then the supplement will be full price for future monthly shipments. Shipping is free for all subscriptions. Ritual also offers an initial 30% off if you bundle two or more supplements.

As with the single product subscription, your bundled subscription will return to the full price for future monthly shipments. You can cancel your subscription anytime via the Account page on Ritual’s website.

Best Greens Vitamin Subscription: AG1

AG1

AG1 not only has greens, but omega-3s and sleep support too
Fortune score4/5
AG1

at AG1

  • Our thoughts: Our tester loves the updated flavor of AG1 Next Gen
  • Who it’s for: Busy people who want to stack their wellness supps
  • What makes it different: NSF Certified for Sport

Pros

  • Vegan
  • No sugar added
  • COAs available online

Cons

  • Their greens powder uses a proprietary blend
  • Products are more expensive than most competitors

Our Thoughts on AG1

AG1 is our pick for the best greens powder vitamin subscription because the brand has nine supplements, including their flagship greens powder. Many of AG1’s supps can be easily stacked. With a monthly subscription, you’ll save $20 per pouch and get free shipping. Some of the brand’s other supplements include AGZ: Nightly Sleep Support, AG Omega 3, and more.

Our tester Kayla appreciated how easy AG1 Next Gen was to work into a busy work schedule: the instructions are clear, it mixes quickly with about ten ounces of cold water, and the powder showed some of the best solubility she’s seen among greens products.

“Before it was very earthy tasting, the smell was almost bitter, and it was too overwhelming. Now I can smell the pineapple,” she said, giving the flavor a 3 out of 5 rating. “There are also subtle hints of vanilla sweetness that help soften the greens flavor,” Kayla noted, adding that it didn’t taste overly sweet, despite a little lingering stevia flavor. “There’s no strong bitterness and the drink is well balanced,” she said.

Our tester did note that the new formula has a slightly metallic taste. While the product mixed pretty easily, she did notice a grainy quality to the drink. “If I mixed it longer (or shook the bottle more), the formula did create quite a bit of foam,” she said, giving a 3 out of 5 for solubility. “It settled down quickly, though. The mixability was average.”

AG1 has several core subscriptions, including monthly deliveries of their greens powder (AG1 Next Gen), travel packets of greens powder, and a double subscription. The brand also has several preset stacks, such as the Day and Night Bundle, Full Foundation Stack, plus the Home & Away pack. Subscriptions auto-renew but can be adjusted via AG1’s online member portal.

You can modify the shipping frequency, pause your subscription, or cancel this way. If you’re a first-time subscriber, you’ll get a welcome pack (AG1 canister, scoop, and a shaker).

Best Vitamin Subscription for Hair Growth: Nutrafol

Nutrafol

Nutrafol offers a hair wellness quiz

Nutrafol

at Nutrafol

  • Our thoughts: The brand’s Nutraceutical has ingredients to support stress, inflammation, and more
  • Who it’s for: Folks who prefer taking capsules for hair growth, not using a topical
  • What makes it different: Nutafol offers multiple benefits along with having a subscription

Pros

  • The Nutraceuticals and Hair Wellness Boosters are capsules, which some folks prefer to topical application
  • Ingredients include support for stress, hormones, and inflammation
  • Formulas available for both men and for women

Cons

  • Pricey, and cost is typically ongoing for at least a year
  • Some products have a 4-capsule serving size

Our Thoughts on Nutrafol

Nutrafol is our pick for the Best Vitamin Subscription for Hair Growth because the brand’s Nutraceutical line supports hair growth for folks at different stages of life: men 18-50, 50+, women 18-44, 45+, postpartum, and more. Their hair wellness boosters include supplements for stress, hormone support, and collagen for aging. Nutrafol offers a monthly subscription (save 10%), a three-month supply (save 15%), and even a six-month supply (save 20%).

Of Nutrafol’s offerings (which also include shampoos, conditioners, and serums), “the options are pretty straightforward,” our tester Pete said. “You can just get the Hair Growth Nutraceutical on its own, or bundle it with something like a DHT blocker, hair serum, or collagen booster. The Hair Growth Nutraceutical felt like the best fit for my lifestyle and what I need right now. I wanted something over the counter that was easy to get and didn’t require a prescription,” he said.

We think the quality of this product and ease of use are attractive. But, some may find the serving size and taste give them pause.

“The serving size is four capsules, which took me back a bit,” another tester, Riley, said. “Unless you’re a pill-swallowing expert, I’d recommend taking them in batches instead of all at once,” she said. She rated swallowability a 3 out of 5. Our tester described the pills as clear capsules with a yellow powder inside. “After popping one of the capsules in my mouth, I found the flavor unpleasant. It tasted earthy and like wheat,” Riley said, rating the taste a 1 out of 5.

Nutrafol’s subscriber benefits include:

  • One-on-one wellness consults with a naturopathic doctor, who will create a personalized plan for you
  • A hair-mineral analysis (the brand notes that it’s an in-depth lab test) to discover what may be causing any hair loss or patchiness, so your hair growth strategy can be customized
  • A Headspace subscription to support stress reduction and potentially improve sleep
  • The myNutrafol app, which can help you track your progress and earn rewards

Best Vitamin Subscription for Parenthood: Perelel

Perelel

at Perelel

  • Our thoughts: We like their transparent labeling
  • Who it’s for: Folks looking to enhance fertility or promote health through all stages of pregnancy
  • What makes it different: The brand was founded by OB-GYNs

Pros

  • Formulas are tailored to your stage of life
  • Brand has bundles and duos
  • Supplements include bioavailable forms of nutrients

Cons

  • Daily packs may include up to 5 capsules
  • Expensive

Our Thoughts on Perelel

Perelel is our pick for the Best Vitamin Subscription for Parenthood because the brand has vitamin options for all stages of pregnancy, including fertility and options for men, too. Perelel also has supplements for general wellness, such as probiotics, stress support, iron, and more. Their subscribe and save discount is 15%; the brand also has a quiz to help you discover which products may best support your stage of life.

Kate tested Perelel’s Mom Multi Support Pack. “This is a good product for someone who wants a comprehensive vitamin pack,” she said. “It’s on the pricey side, but that’s because you get five different pills consisting of multivitamins, omega DHA, biotin, and stress/cognitive support.”

When it comes to taste, Kate wasn’t the biggest fan, giving the flavor a 1 out of 5 score. She noticed an unpleasant taste and smell. That said, the side effects were minor. “I’m feeling a bit tired after taking these vitamins because of the ashwagandha and L-theanine, but nothing that would put me out from my day-to-day tasks,” she explained. “I had no digestive discomfort or any side effects besides the unpleasant taste,” earning a 3 out of 5 for side effects.

Perelel has multiple subscriber perks, though shipping is only free if your subscription is over $39.50. We like that the brand offers subscriptions in multiple ways: single product, bundles, and duos. You could very easily get both your general wellness supplements (probiotics, iron, and more) along with any pregnancy support supplements, too. We especially like the duo made for folks trying to conceive, which comes with a conception support pack and a men’s multi-support pack.

How Do Vitamin Subscriptions Work?

Vitamin subscriptions have some variances but tend to have a similar process.

  1. Some brands will ask you to complete a quiz on their website about your age, gender, diet, goals, and more. Keep in mind that quizzes can’t provide medical diagnoses and could possibly oversimplify your needs. We recommend talking with your doctor or other healthcare professional before choosing a quiz-driven recommendation.
  2. These brands will offer you certain products based on your questionnaire. They may also build a customized stack of vitamins or suggest a particular formula for you.
  3. Your vitamins will be delivered to you on a schedule, typically monthly, as a daily packet, pouch, or bottle.
  4. Most brands will let you pause, skip, or change your subscription easily. You will typically be auto renewed for your subscription if you don’t initiate a change.
  5. Some brands will offer deeper discounts if you purchase a bundle, or multiple months of your vitamins at once.

Why Vitamin Subscriptions Matter to Professionals

When vitamin subscriptions are well-crafted, they can be a great way to predict a recurring expense, select a transparent formula, and support health goals. Considering vitamin subscriptions are delivered regularly to your home, they can help save shopping time, seamlessly integrating into your busy schedule.

Whether your motivating factor is predictable budgeting, reducing the time you spend shopping for supplements, or getting all your vitamins from one brand that you trust, there are numerous good reasons to sign up for a vitamin subscription. And, getting even more granular, our top picks offer products aimed at keeping you on the right track with gut health, hair growth, stress support, and more.

How We Tested and Selected the Best Vitamin Subscriptions

We tested and evaluated vitamin subscriptions based on testers’ first impressions, ease of following directions, swallowability, side effects, and value. Our testers evaluate the products based on their own individual experiences and preferences. We then review their testing feedback and data to share our findings and recommendations with you.

Taste and Texture

Where possible, we looked for vitamins that were pleasant to swallow or drink. Some brands add flavored essence to their supplement bottles, such as Ritual. We also paid attention to our testers’ feedback on any aftertaste or scent.

Formula

We work with a certified nutrition coach and a dietitian during testing to find the most effective and safe vitamins. We looked for products that met the recommended daily value (RDV) for as many vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients as possible.

Third-Party Testing

We chose brands that have all of their products third-party tested. Third-party testing ensures independent verification of safety, purity, as well as nutrition label accuracy, since the FDA does not regulate supplements.

Value

When considering value, we consider the benefits offered along with the vitamin subscriptions against the price.

Finding a multivitamin for your teen can be tricky. Check out our top picks.

Benefits of Vitamin Subscriptions

Here are some benefits of getting a vitamin subscription:

  • Delivered directly to you, no in-person shopping needed
  • Auto-renew can support busy professionals who don’t have time to re-purchase each month
  • A subscription can help you stay consistent with your vitamin regimen

What to Avoid in Vitamin Subscriptions

  • Vitamin doses that are too high for what you actually need
  • It’s smart to check for possible interactions, since supplements may impact medications and aren’t regulated by the FDA
  • Companies that don’t third-party test their supplements
  • Companies with proprietary blends in their supplements, which hide the true amounts of each ingredient

How to Find the Best Vitamin Subscriptions for You

Everyone has difference preferences for a vitamin subscription, which may depend on your health goals, dietary needs, allergies, and any nutrition gaps you’d like to address.

Here’s what to consider when selecting the best vitamin subscription for you.

Your Wellness Goals

Before selecting a vitamin subscription, we recommend that you talk with your doctor or other healthcare professional. It may be a good time to get bloodwork done so you can find a subscription or bundle best suited to your needs. It’s still best to prioritize getting your recommended daily values of nutrients from whole foods, but if you are deficient in any particular area, bloodwork results can help you narrow your search.

Convenience

When shopping for a vitamin subscription, consider how often you’d like to receive your supplement delivery. Many brands offer a 30-day supply, delivered each month. Some brands have more options, so you can order up to three months or even six months’ supply at a time. Keep in mind that you’ll need somewhere in your home to store the extra if you get a larger subscription order.

Formula

When choosing the formulation of the vitamins you’re going to subscribe to, we recommend checking to see if the list of ingredients (and amounts) fit your dietary needs, any nutrition gaps, and stage of life.

Cost

If you are already buying a vitamin or stack each month, signing up for a subscription will likely save you money. Most brands offer free shipping with a subscription, and you may save anywhere from 10% to 30% on the full price. If you are consistently taking the vitamins, a subscription is likely to work well.

Fortune’s Final Thoughts

A vitamin subscription is worth considering, especially if it fits well with your budget, aligns with your doctor’s input, and is coming from a reputable company (with clear cancellation information). If you know exactly what product(s) you need (and the ideal dose), a subscription can save you money and hassle long-term. However, if you struggle with consistency or aren’t quite sure about what you need, then starting with a one-off purchase could be a better choice. That way, you can reassess your needs after you have more data.

Frequently asked questions

What are vitamin subscriptions?

Vitamin subscriptions are sent to you on a cadence of your choice, such as monthly or bi-monthly. These types of subscriptions frequently bundle multiple vitamins together, offer a personalized-for-you stack, or can simply be one supplement that’s sent in time so that you don’t run out.

Are vitamin subscriptions worth it?

It depends. If the subscription fits your budget and you’re taking the vitamins consistently, a subscription can be an easy way to keep up with your health. If the supplement routine is too complex, or you find you have tons of extra product piling up at home, it may not be worth it for you. While subscriptions are usually discounted compared to a one-off supplement purchase (and shipping tends to be free), you can also search for additional discounts, like signing up for the brand’s email list or newsletter.

What is the best vitamin subscription service?

Ritual is our choice for the best vitamin subscription service. The brand has 19 unique supplements. Among these supplements, Ritual has multivitamins, gut health, pregnancy, multivitamins (for folks both 18+ and then both men and women 50+), and more.
