President Donald Trump, who has come under fire for controversial and offensive comments about women, attended a women’s empowerment forum at the White House Wednesday. And Stephen Colbert took him to task.
Joking that this women’s event was the first one Trump had attended “since sneaking into the dressing room at the Miss USA pageant,” Colbert showed his audience footage of Trump’s remarks — but overlaid the audio with the 2005 “Access Hollywood” tape that nearly sank his campaign.
In that tape, Trump talks about his affinity for beautiful women, explaining, “when you’re a star, they’ll let you do anything.” Colbert also joked about Trump and his wife, noting that Melania Trump had attended an awards ceremony for women who had shown courage in the face of repression. “How could she possibly relate to them?” he said sarcastically.
