After he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, Sting announced his retirement from wrestling after 31 years.
“I just want you to know this isn’t goodbye, it’s just see you later,” he said in a speech.
Sting suffered a serious neck injury in September during a match against then WWE Champion Seth Rollins. Doctors have reportedly told the professional wrestling legend that continuing to compete would be too dangerous for the 56-year-old after he was diagnosed with cervical spinal stenosis.
The WWE has been hit hard with injuries to its champions lately, with Daniel Bryan being forced into retirement by repeated concussion and John Cena and Randy Orton both missing significant time with shoulder injuries, and Seth Rollins run with the belt being cut short by torn knee ligaments.
