Donald Trump has shaken off the short-lived narrative that he was in a tailspin, winning the Michigan Republican Primary, according to AP projections. This puts Trump in position to clinch the the party’s nomination in just a week’s time.
Trump also won Mississippi on Tuesday, solidifying his dominance of the Southern states.
Recent polls had suggested that Ohio Gov. John Kasich could potentially beat Trump in Michigan, but it wasn’t to be. At the time of publication, Kasich is currently in second, leaving Sen. Ted Cruz to third.
Next Tuesday, primaries will be held in Florida and Ohio. Both of these states are winner-take-all, meaning whoever gets the plurality of delegates will win every available delegate. Trump is clearly trying hard to win Florida, spending a lot of time there. His closest competition there is home state Senator Marco Rubio, whose campaign has floundered in recent weeks.
