Universal Pictures International set a new record at the international box office for the highest-grossing year ever with $3.78 billion, Business Insider reports.
The studio has released four out of the five internationally highest-grossing films of the year. Furious 7 was number 1 with $1.162 billion; Jurassic World was number 2 with $983.5 million; Minions was number 4 with $670.2 million; and Fifty Shades of Grey was number 5 with $404.1 million.
Jurassic World opened at number 1 in 69 territories, making it the largest worldwide opening weekend ever, and it became the fastest film to reach $1 billion just 13 days after being released. It is now the third highest-grossing film of all time, beaten only Avatar and Titanic. It also set records for being the fastest studio to reach the $2 billion and $3 billion mark at the international box office.
Universal has had four number 1 worldwide openings this year and has been number 1 at the international box office for over 10 weeks, outdoing every other studio.
The studio still has more to look forward to this year, including the international release of Straight Outta Compton and Steve Jobs.
