FORTUNE — Silver Lake Partners co-founder Glenn Hutchins was scheduled to be on CNBC this morning, with a producer tweeting that he would be asked about his firm’s reported efforts to help Dell Inc. (DELL) go private.
But then it didn’t happen. First CNBC put up a graphic suggesting that the interview had been pushed back a half hour. But then anchor Carl Quintanilla announced that Hutchins had needed to cancel, and that he hopefully would be rescheduled for a later date.
Now I wasn’t expecting Hutchins to offer up more than a “no comment” on Dell, but the cancellation does have my mind racing a bit. Both Hutchins and Michael Dell are at the World Economic Forum in Davos, so perhaps the two of them are busy hammering out final details. Or begging for co-investors. Or skiing together. Or asking all the attending Microsoft (MSFT) executives why Steve Ballmer didn’t show.
Again, just trying to read tea leaves from afar here. But clearly something unexpected came up for Hutchins in the past hour or so — and I don’t imagine he’s got anything more important going on right now than the largest deal in his firm’s history…
