Barclays is one of Britain’s largest and oldest banks, tracing its origins to 1690. Its business is split into five distinct lines: a ring-fenced U.K. retail bank (including its Barclaycard credit division), a global investment bank, a U.K. SME and mid-cap-focused corporate bank, a private bank and wealth management division, and a U.S. consumer bank focused on co-branded and white label credit cards. Barclays is gradually downsizing its investment bank, targeting a reduction in risk-weighted assets from 58% to 50% by 2026, and is primarily seeking to grow within its domestic market, which is currently smaller than its international operations. The group is headquartered in London.
